Big machines for big jobs
After the foundation stones were laid in July 1961, the Colmar site developed rapidly. As the excavator industry developed, machine design and technology improved and the French factory became a leading manufacturer of technologically advanced crawler excavators. Progressive specialization led to new business areas such as mining excavators, which would not be built until a decade later.
1964 Honorary doctorate for Hans Liebherr
More than 30 patents for tower cranes, about 20 for hydraulic excavators and more than a dozen for concrete mixers – in many locations around the world, jobs have been simplified thanks to innovation from Liebherr.

In addition to technological achievements, Hans Liebherr is known for his corporate performance. TU Aachen recognizes this achievement with an honorary doctorate.
